Dieser Torpedo traf die Barberrys. Der Dampfer sackte vorn schnell tiefer und versank. Der Kapitän, der Geleitzug-Kommodore, 20 Besatzungsmitglieder, 4 Artilleristen und 5 Marineangehörige kamen ums Leben. 18 Besatzungsmitglieder, 3 Artilleristen und 1 Marineangehöriger, wurden vom amerikanischen Küstenwachschiff USCGC Mohawk (WPG-78) gerettet und in St. John´s (Neufundland) an Land gesetzt. |
