Beim Verlust seines Bootes U 441, im Ärmelkanal westlich der Insel Guernsey, ums Leben gekommen. Das Boot wurde durch Wasserbomben der Consolidated B-24 Liberator L (John-William Barling) der RAF Squadron 224 sowie der britischen Fregatten HMS Essington (K.353) (Lt.Comdr. Wilfred Lambert), HMS Duckworth (K.351) (Comdr. Ronald-George Mills), HMS Domett (K.473) (Lt.Comdr. Stirling Gordon) und HMS Cooke (K.471) (Lt.Comdr. Leonard-Charles Hill) versenkt. (Totalverlust, 51 Tote).
