Beide Torpedos trafen die Melville E. Stone an Backbord. Danach sank der Dampfer innerhalb von acht Minuten auf ebenen Kiel. 12 Besatzungsmitglieder, 2 Artilleristen und 1 Passagier kamen ums Leben. Der Kapitän, 29 Besatzungsmitglieder, 21 Artilleristen und 22 Passagiere wurden von den amerikanischen USS SC 1023 und USS SC 662 gerettet und später an Land gesetzt. |
